Work & Residency Pathways for Australian Citizens
Information based on current research for Australian citizens wishing to live and work in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Australians have access to the General Employment Policy (GEP), the Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS), and the Working Holiday Scheme. Hong Kong serves as a major global financial hub with streamlined immigration for professionals.
Top Talent Pass Scheme. For high earners (HK$2.5M+ annual salary) or graduates from the world's top 100 universities. No job offer needed for initial entry.
General Employment Policy. For professionals with specialized skills not readily available in HK. Requires a local employer sponsor.
Allows Australians (18-30) to work and travel for up to 1 year. Annual quota: 5,000 places. One of the most generous quotas for Australians.
Submit all documents through the Immigration Department's e-Services platform.
ImmD reviews the application. GEP applications require employer documents; TTPS is typically faster.
Once approved, pay the fee and download your electronic visa (e-visa) notification slip.
Enter HK using the e-visa. Apply for a Hong Kong Identity Card (HKID) at any Registration of Persons Office.
