Work & Residency Pathways for Australian Citizens
Information based on current research for Australian citizens wishing to live and work in Taiwan (R.O.C.).
Australians have access to the Working Holiday Visa, the Employment Gold Card, and standard Work Visas. Australians enjoy visa-free entry for tourism but MUST obtain a specific work visa or ARC for employment.
A 4-in-1 permit (work, residence, re-entry, and visa). For highly skilled professionals in specialized fields with a salary threshold of approx NT$160,000/month.
Requires a job offer from a Taiwanese company. The employer must first obtain a "Work Permit" from the Ministry of Labor before you apply for the Resident Visa.
Allows Australians (18-30) to work and travel for 1 year. This is a great way for young people to gain short-term experience in Taiwan.
Your Taiwan-based employer applies for a work permit from the Ministry of Labor (MOL).
Apply for a Resident Visa at a TECO (Taipei Economic and Cultural Office) in Australia (e.g., Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra).
Travel to Taiwan. You must register for your Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) at the National Immigration Agency (NIA).
Collect your physical ARC card. This serves as your primary legal IDs for work, bank accounts, and health insurance in Taiwan.
