Visa-Free Entry (Temporary Policy)

Austrian citizens currently enjoy visa-free entry for up to 15 days for tourism, business, and family visits. However, for employment purposes, a valid Work (Z) Visa is still required before entry.

Austrian citizens primarily apply for the Z Visa (Work) or the M Visa (Business) for long-term activities. The Z Visa is the foundation for obtaining a long-term residence permit in China.

The standard visa for foreigners working in China. Requires a Foreigner's Work Permit notification and conversion to a residence permit within 30 days of arrival.

High-Level Talent (R-Visa)

For top-tier professionals and scientists. Offers 10-year multi-entry with stays of up to 180 days per entry and simplified procedures.

Typical Process

Employer Submission

Your Chinese employer handles the initial work permit notification with the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Visa Center Appointment

Apply for your Z-Visa at the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in Vienna.

Arrival & Local Registration

Enter China and register with the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) or your hotel within 24 hours.

Residence Permit Application

Apply for a Residence Permit for Work at the local Exit-Entry Administration Bureau (EEAB) within 30 days.
