Work & Residency Pathways for Canadian Citizens
Information based on current research for Canadian citizens wishing to live and work in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Canadian citizens can apply for the Youth Mobility Program (Working Holiday), EU Blue Card, or Skilled Worker visas. Canadians aged 18-35 are eligible and can apply after arrival in Germany.
For highly qualified workers with a degree recognized in Germany and a salary offer exceeding the required thresholds.
The points-based "Chancenkarte". Allows you to stay in Germany for up to 1 year to look for a job while working part-time.
For Canadian citizens aged 18-35. Allows you to work and travel for up to 12 months. This program is specifically designed to foster cooperation between Canada and Germany.
Enter Germany as a tourist. You can legally stay for up to 90 days without a visa.
Register your place of residence at the local Citizens' Office (Bürgeramt) within 2 weeks of moving into a long-term rental.
Submit your residence permit application to the Ausländerbehörde in your city of residence.
You receive a document "Fiktionsbescheinigung" allowing you to stay past the 90 days while your permit is being issued.
