Work & Residency Pathways for Canadian Citizens
Information based on current research for Canadian citizens wishing to live and work in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Canadian citizens can apply for the General Employment Policy (GEP), the Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS), and the Working Holiday Scheme. Hong Kong remains a key destination for Canadian professionals in finance, tech, and education.
Top Talent Pass Scheme. For those earning HK$2.5M+ or graduates from the world's top 100 universities. Allows entry without a job offer for 2 years.
General Employment Policy. For professionals with specialized skills. Requires a job offer with a salary at prevailing market rates.
Allows Canadians (18-30) to work and travel for 1 year. Annual quota: 200 places. Requires proof of funding (approx HK$25,000).
Sign up for an account on the GovHK website to submit your application electronically.
Upload clear scans of your passport, degree, CV, and employer's supporting documents (if applicable).
Once approved, you will receive an "electronic visa" which you must download and print.
Enter HK using the e-visa and book an appointment for your HKID card within 30 days of arrival.
