Work & Residency Pathways for Hong Kong Citizens
Information based on current research for applicants from Hong Kong wishing to live and work in New Zealand.
Hong Kong citizens can apply for work routes including the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), Working Holiday, and Specific Purpose Work Visa. Note that HK SAR passport holders have a specific Working Holiday quota.
The primary work visa requiring a job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer.
Quota-based route for young HK SAR passport holders to work and travel in NZ.
For short-term, specialized work or professional engagements in New Zealand.
Identify the correct visa route (AEWV, Working Holiday, etc.) based on your purpose.
For AEWV, the employer must request a Job Check and issue a Job Token to you.
Submit your application via the Immigration New Zealand portal and pay the fee.
Attend the NZVAC in Hong Kong for biometrics and passport submission. Processing takes 3–8 weeks.
