Hong Kong SAR passport holders primarily apply for the H-1B Specialty Occupation Visa, the L-1 Intra-company Transferee Visa, or the J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa. Hong Kong residents are treated as a separate quota from Mainland China for many visa and green card categories, often leading to shorter wait times.
For skilled professionals with at least a bachelor's degree. Requires a US employer sponsor. Subject to a global annual cap and lottery.
For employees of multi-national companies being transferred from a Hong Kong office to a US parent or subsidiary office.
For individuals with extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics. Common for high-level creative and tech talent.
Your US employer sponsor files a petition with USCIS. Once approved, you receive your I-129/I-797 documents.
Create an account on the US visa info site for Hong Kong, pay the fee, and book your interview.
Attend an interview at the US Consulate General in Garden Road, Central. Bring your HKSAR passport and all petitions.
Upon approval, collect your passport with the visa foil from the designated pick-up location in HK.

The Garden Road consulate is one of the busiest US missions. Security is tight; ensure you arrive at least 15 minutes before your time. For BNO holders, the process remains largely the same as for HKSAR holders.
