Working Holiday Scheme (WHS) - Age 18-30

United Kingdom citizens aged 18-30 (inclusive) are eligible for the Hong Kong Working Holiday Scheme. This allows for a stay of up to 12 months. There is an annual quota of 1,000 places. Beyond youth mobility, Hong Kong offers professional visas like the General Policy of Employment (GEP) for those with a job offer and the Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS) for high earners or graduates of top universities.

Working Holiday

For UK citizens 18-30. 12 months stay. Primary purpose must be holidaying. Hold short-term jobs during your stay.

Top Talent (TTPS)

For graduates of top global universities (e.g., Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial) or high earners over HK$2.5M (~GBP 250k).

Employment (GEP)

Standard professional migration for those with a job offer and relevant skills not locally available.

General Requirements (WHS)

Valid UK Passport
Proof of Funds (HK$20,000 ~ GBP 2,050)
Comprehensive Medical & Travel Insurance
Return Flight Ticket (or proof of funds to buy one)
Must not be accompanied by any dependents

Preparation Steps

Complete the application form provided by the Hong Kong Immigration Department for WHS applicants.

Prepare Paperwork

Assemble your bank statements, insurance certificates, and passport photos. Translations are rarely needed for UK docs.

Submit Application

Submit by post to HK Immigration or in person at the Chinese Embassy (London) or Consulate (Manchester/Edinburgh/Belfast).

Visa Sticker

Processing takes 2-4 weeks. Once approved, you'll receive a visa sticker to facilitate your travel to HK.
